Notting Hill
When America's girl next door Julia Roberts meets English public schoolboy Hugh Grant, the resulting movie is one that both guys and girls will find entertaining as well as funny and romantic!

Sleepless in Seattle
With an 'ahhhh' factor that can be heard from coast to coast, this romantic movie with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks is a wonderful chick flick -- especially for those who think that they'll never find 'Mr. Right'!

Ghost
This movie deals with one of the worst situations any couple could find themselves -- the violent and unexpected death of their partner -- and yet it manages to be one of the most romantic movies of the past few decades. Light relief to the story comes in the shape of a medium hilariously played by Whoopee Goldberg.

Titanic
Ok, so the ship sinks -- but this movie isn't just about the ship that hit an iceberg. The story is about a fictional old lady who was aboard the Titanic that fateful night and who is taken down under the sea to see what remains of the ship. She tells of a young man she met, a man she fell in love with, who didn't survive, but who she continued to love over the years. The ship may sink, but the heart goes on forever in this movie!

An Officer and a Gentleman
Love lifts us up in this movie as guys as well as girls can enjoy the interplay between the trainee naval cadets and the local ladies. With humor from the training, and romance between the characters, there's something for both him and her in this one.

One Fine Day
True love doesn't always come first time around as this movie shows -- with both Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney both divorced and finding romance and laughter in this romantic comedy that both you and your guy can enjoy.

Gone with the Wind, Casablanca and an Affair to Remember
If you love old movies, then here's top romantic trio. If you're looking to watch one of these with your man, then Casablanca is probably your best choice, but if it's a girls night in, then Gone with the Wind or An Affair to Remember will offer a very different look at romance -- although both of them proving that the path of love never runs smoothly!

Joy Ride

The plot concerns Lewis Thomas (Paul Walker), a young man who decides to go cross-country to pick up his high school sweetheart, Venna Wilcox (Leelee Sobieski), from college. On his way there, he bails his brother, Fuller Thomas (Steve Zahn), out of jail. Fuller, looking for a good time, decides to ride with Lewis. During their trip to pick up Venna, Fuller coaxes Lewis into playing a cruel joke, through their CB radio, on a truck driver, known only as ‘Rusty Nail’ (voiced by Ted Levine). More Than Meets The Eye: The Future of Transformers

With their unmistakable electronic changing noise and the tag line "Robots in Disguise" from the 80s cartoon, it's hard to ignore the Tranformers. As any true child of the 80s can tell you, Transformers were created by the toy company Hasbro after meeting Takara (a Japanese toy company) at the Tokyo Toy Show in 1983. By combining Takara's toy lines Diaclone and Micro Change, Hasbro created a product line unlike any other. The initial toys were released with the television series, and since then, nine different Transformers toy lines have hit American markets.

What Was. . .

The Transformer's storyline initially had the Autobots (the story's heroes) fighting the Decepticons (the ultimate villains) for control of Cybertron, their home planet. The eventually left their home in search of energy, which they found on Earth.

What is . . .

Because of the continued popularity of this story line and these toys, Producer Don Murphy looked into the possibility of creating a live-action film based on the franchise. Slated for release in July of 2007, the film brings together the creative minds of co-producer Adam DeSanto, Steven Spielberg, and screen writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

A Closer Look

The film begins when Captain Archibald Witwicky lands on Decepticon leader Megatron's hand after he has fallen into an chasm during a voyage through the Arctic circle in the 1800s. Megatron creates a map to Allspark in Witwicky's glasses, which are handed down to his descendant Sam Witwicky in the present. Sam purchases his first car, the Autobot Bumblebee, which in turn, helps him meet Mikaela, a new love interest. As the Autobots search for Witwicky's glasses, the Decepticon's invade Sam's house, triggering a chain of events that leads Autobot leader Optimus Prime and Megatron to the ultimate battle.

One of the most surprising and refreshing aspects of the film promises to be the effects. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura wanted to keep things on the realistic side, so instead of going with a standard box like look for the main character Optimus Prime, he turned him into a Peterbuilt truck. Autobot Bumblebee was changed from a Volkswagen Beetle into a Chevrolet Camero, and other Autobots were all shifted to GM vehicles as part of contract negotiations. The transformation sound effect many fans heard as children was reused throughout the movie, and motion capture points were used to create many of the effects movie-goers will see on screen.

Given that the internet trailers received more hits than any other movie trailer online, the new Transfomers movie promises to be a great success and a wonderful addition to the family.

Anime vs Manga

If you are a manga fan and reading up on the latest anime and manga releases and the history of the subject, you will find there has been a lot of confusion between anime and manga. Oftentimes, fans will ask others on forums or on blogs or in chat rooms what the difference is. But this is like having the blind lead the blind in most cases.

There are experts who visit these sites and can answer questions intelligently, but since they do not usually leave links to back up their claims, it can be unclear if what they say is true or if they are really experts. If you go to an online encyclopedia, you often find so much information to wade through with so many big words, it's hard to fully make sense of it all.

Suffice it to say that manga means Japanese comic books, or in other words, those drawn-on-paper cartoons originating in Japan. Similar to the American comics with Superman and Spiderman, these comics were often made into different series and are still produced in quantity. Anime is animation, or you could say, the animated versions of manga.

Any animation actually needs to start out as a cartoon drawing of some kind. Manga artists create the characters and story line, then their drawings are made into animated film. The animation process is long and detailed, and takes a number of talented people to bring off the final product. The artists who originally create the character, his personality and the scene where the action takes place play a large part in the production of the anime.

Sometimes, besides the creator of the manga itself, studios take the artwork and make the backgrounds and other details with the labors of other animators. These drawings are combined and photographed or scanned as one piece, making an entire scene with the character, extras and the sights of a modern city or whatever is being portrayed. Thus anime is created.

Rumko Takahashi created the popular series, Inuyasha and Ranma. She does the original drawings and assists in the animation process along with other artists in the studio that produce the final anime. And so it is with many manga-kas (manga writers).

Which came first, manga or anime? That is easy to answer in studying the history of cartoon drawing. In Japan, the most famous manga artists were in production in the 1940s, for they were producing cartoons regarding the World War in progress at the time. That doesn't mean there weren't other cartoonists prior to this time. Certainly there were.

In the U.S., comics were in vogue early on. As early as the late 1700s, Benjamin Franklin started the first editorial cartoon. This soon expanded to the longer comic strips, the first of which was drawn by Richard Outcault in 1895. Then in the 1930s there were the debuts of such heroes as Superman and Batman.

On the other hand, losing your money in a casino while trying to save money on a gambling book is not such a brilliant idea. Anyway, determine in advance how much you are willing to pay for a book on gambling.

You should also consider the price of the book before you purchase it. Just because one book is more expensive then the rest does not make it a better book. So you should be willing to buy a pricier book but only if you are confident it is worth the money. You do not want to lose your money because you were to cheap to go for the better book do you? The more specific you are in your search of a book the fewer hits you are going to get. This is not a bad thing. It should be easier to find which one is the better book, and if there are only two you can get both of them.

Breaking In To Mass Media Production

When asked the age old question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" to some of today's kids, the answers given are much more likely to be "I want to be on TV" or more simply "I want to be famous" rather than the more time-honoured favourites like "doctor", "teacher" or "fire fighter".

The impact the media has on our views and on society as a whole has become much more profound in recent years and this is reflected the in the answers of these children. However, despite the strong desire to be part of celebrity culture, very few people will actually end up on the big screen. But the growth of the media industry which has developed from TV, film and magazines to all sorts of web based initiatives means there are jobs to be had in the media sector with many smaller independent companies all chasing a slice of the production pie.

Breaking into film and TV is nothing if not an incredibly daunting task. Small, independent start-up production companies know the steep and slippery slope they must climb to get work from some of the bigger names in the business in the hopes of making a bigger name for themselves. It's a hard grind, but there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for some of these independent companies - charity.

The Research Centre (TRC), a Glasgow and Manchester-based independent charity launched in 1998 to provide training and industry-related events for the TV industry and partly funded by Channel 4, are offering four Scottish independent TV production companies the chance to make more overseas contacts which has the potential to expand their work exponentially.

News of this certainly has been music to the industry's ears. The great divide between the big wigs in need of production companies and the up-and-coming small independents is not desired by either party. This program gives the companies the chance to work with industry professionals that would have been close to impossible had it not been for this TRC programme. The programme is now in its third year.

In addition to a trip out to Hollywood, California, the production companies will also receive informative monthly sessions with industry experts who will discuss issues relevant to the industry. This kind of training is invaluable to those who receive it and is also another way to network and make those vital connections that before would have been out of most small companies' reach.

But what does this say for all of those production companies left in the dark and those outside of the UK? Unfortunately those production companies are ineligible for this star treatment, but the creation and continuance of this programme implies that smaller production companies are being given more attention and it's possible that other countries may follow the TRG's lead and start a similar programme.

Small TV production companies everywhere, like Burberry in Australia and thousands of others, must be keeping close attention to these schemes hoping to learn from their counterparts and maybe one day get the same opportunity.

The interest in British formats has grown in recent years which TRG hopes will give their independent companies more of a boost when connections are made with the US market. Hopefully the trend in giving charity the independents a helping hand will catch on and we will see more of these schemes in the future.

Stand by Me, a Stephen King movie

Stand by Me is a 1986 movie, adapted from Stephen King's story The Body. The Body appeared as a novella in King's collection Different Seasons. Different Seasons also contains the stories The Shawshank Redemption, and the Apt Pupil, both of which were made into movies.

Often described as a coming of age film, the story is of four boys who take a journey through the woodlands near their homes to find the body of a dead boy. The story is told by the main character Gordon Lachance, who is a budding writer.

Vern, one of the boys, hears his older brother talk of the missing boy, whose body is alleged to be in the woods. The boys decide to undertake the journey, to find the body of the boy. The journey takes two days, because of which the boys lie to their parents, telling them that they are staying at each others houses.

The boys experience many difficulties along the way, which reveal the past and present struggles of the characters. Chris Chambers, played by River Phoenix, is from a family of criminals and alcoholics. Chris is stereotyped because of his family. However he proves to be intelligent and has a desire to break his stereotype. Teddy Duchamp, played by Corey Feldman, has a physical deformity, after his mentally-unstable father held his ear to a stove. Teddy now has to wear a hearing aid. Vern Tessio, played by Jerry O'Connell, is overweight and timid. He is easily scared and often picked on. Gordon Lachance, played by Will Wheaton, is the narrator and thus the primary character of the story. Gordie is a quiet boy with a passion for books and story telling. He is rejected by his family after the death of his football star older brother. The end of the story reveals that Gordie has become a writer and we have just witnessed the story as he was writing it.

The film has a reoccurring theme of showdowns. These occur between two or more characters in the film. The first brief showdown is between Chris and Ace on the sidewalk when Ace threatens to burn Chris's face while he has him in a headlock. Chris "gives" and Ace releases him. The next is when Teddy faces off against an on coming train at the beginning of the boys' trek. He says he wants to make a dramatic "train dodge," and just before it hits him, Chris grabs him and forces him out of harms way. The third showdown that happens is between Teddy, once again, and the junk yard man and his dog. They yell and call names, but when the junk yard man brings Teddy's unstable father into the picture, Teddy breaks down and starts to cry. Another showdown occurs when Ace pulls up to some locals who seem to have a history of racing cars with him. They remain neck to neck for a short period before a truck appears in the other lane coming toward Ace. Ace and two of his buddies (who seem petrified) do not change lanes, but decide to stay on the wrong side of the road and face off with the on coming truck. The other car in the race looks scared for them. Before they crash, the truck swerves off of the road, spilling all of its supplies while Ace goes on to win the race. The final showdown is between the younger gang and Ace's crowd at the body. The two groups trade harsh words before Ace pulls a knife on Chris, but is soon too skittish to use it after Gordie fires a shot in the air with Chris's gun. He then points it at Ace, which chills him and scares him away, along with his group. These are only some of the major showdowns that occur in the film.

There are several minor changes to the movie script from the original Stephen King story. However, the story is faithful to King's original. Stephen King told cast and crew after a private screening of the film that it was his favorite adaptation of any of his works up to that point.

Stephen King is said to have witnessed a child being killed by a train, whilst he was a child himself. It is easy to conclude that the story was influenced by King's experience.

The title of the film comes from the Ben E King song of the same name. Stephen King's original story is called The Body.

The Green Mile, a Stephen King movie

The Green Mile is a movie about a series of events on Louisiana death row in the 1930s. The original story was written by Stephen King. The movie was directed by Frank Darabont, who wrote the screenplay. Tom Hanks stars as the main character Paul Edgecomb, Michael Clarke Duncan co-stars as John Coffey.

The movie centres on Paul Edgecomb, head of the guard of a death row facility. Paul and his guards take custody of an unusual inmate, John Coffey. Coffey is a gigantic yet extremely compassionate and gentle man. Coffey has been convicted of raping and killing two young girls. At first the guards are wary of Coffey, but his kind nature soon changes the guards perception of him.

John Coffey soon displays extraordinary healing powers. He heels Paul Edgecomb's urinary infection, and brings back to life a mouse killed by another inmate. The guards realise that Coffey has supernatural powers, and that they will be lost when he is executed.

The wife of the warden of the correctional facility is terminally ill. Paul Edgecomb is upset by this news of his friend. The guards develop a plan to smuggle John Coffey out of the prison, to the warden's house, to cure the warden's wife, and then return Coffey to The Green Mile. They all risk their jobs, and possibly becoming criminals themselves to move Coffey in and out of the prison. Coffey is taken to the warden's house, where he removes the disease from the warden's wife.

The story also contains the character Percy Wetmore. Percy is a vicious and unpleasant prison officer. He intimidates and injures the inmates. He is unlike the other guards, who are firm but compassionate prison officers, and is not liked. Wetmore agrees to transfer to a different position if he is in charge of the next execution. A reluctant agreement is made. However, Wetmore sabotages the electrocution, causing maximum suffering to the inmate.

John Coffey seeks revenge on Percy Wetmore, for the pain he caused the inmate during the electrocution. After Coffey is returned to The Green Mile, from the warden's house, he transfers the disease he removed from the warden's wife to Percy. Percy is then set in a permanent catatonic state.

A violent prisoner called William Wharton arrives at The Green Mile. During one scene Wharton grabs the arm of Coffey, who sees that Wharton is the true killer of the girls for which Coffey has been sentenced to death. Coffey then uses his powers to transfer this image to Paul Edgecomb, the head of the guard.

With this information Paul Edgecomb still has to execute John Coffey. A man he knows is innocent and who posses' incredible powers.

The movie is told in flashback. Paul is now an elderly main, and is explaining the series of events to another resident in his care home. After the story is told Edgecomb reveals that he is now 108 years old. This is an apparent side effect of John Coffey's life giving powers. However, Paul believes his outliving of his relatives and friends is a punishment from God for not stopping Coffey's execution.

The Louisiana death row is called The Green Mile because death row is often called "the last mile". In Louisiana the floor is green.

The Green Mile was written by Stephen King. King has written two prison stories, The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption. Both were adapted to movies, and directed by Frank Darabont.

The Green Mile was nominated for four Academy Awards in 2000. These were Best Actor in A Supporting Role, Best Picture, Best Sound and Best Writing: Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published. It won none of these awards.

The Internet is used by a lot of people to download music, movies, games and various other soft wares for free. The legality of this practice is, and will be for a long time, a hot issue. Some countries want to totally stop the downloading of copyright protected materials, like the U.S.A. Other countries, like France, want to allow this type of downloading, but only for personal use. And there are quiet a few countries that do not care at al. The Internet has no borders, and it will be a very long time before all the counties of the world have agreed on how to legislate this music, movies and games downloading.

Of course there is an ethical issue. A lot of people consider the downloading, for free, of copy right protected material as theft. I have heard all the arguments by now. I did hear them in the 70's when cassette recorders became available and very popular. I heard them when CD writers became available and I hear them now when downloading over the Internet is becoming more and more popular.

In my opinion it is theft if you copy anything and sell it. If you copy something for your own use that is o.k. with me. I have noticed that I, and a lot of people I know as well, still buy the "real thing" if we like it, and I also have noticed that I am getting selective.

I hardly buy anything anymore from the real top performers. I think they simply earn enough as it is. If I come along a new group I like I usually copy a few songs, and I might go out and score their CD if I really like them. I noticed that I must have been doing this for a long time.
I had a look at my CD's and saw that most of the originals were indeed the earlier work of a certain group. If I had more of them, it were usually copies I had downloaded some how from the Internet.

I know there are quit a few people who use this "selective downloading". A friend of mine loves the music of a certain performer, but, as he told me, he refuses to pay for his records. He refuses to contribute a single penny towards the legal team that is defending this guy in a child molest case. He has downloaded the music of this performer, for free, from the Internet.

But all this free downloading has a downside. A lot of people are having computer problems because they downloaded something from the Internet. The Internet is a jungle and there are a lot of predators around that are searching for their prey. Predators like spy ware and ad ware. Little programs that you sometimes download as well and that hide on your computer without you knowing it. Some can be very harmful indeed, like the so called key loggers. These programs "remember" every keystroke you make, and send this info to their "owners". This way sensitive info, like passwords or credit card numbers, can get in the hands of the wrong people.

I advice every one who wants to download music, movies, games or any other program for free from the Internet to be very careful. Make sure your computer has very good spy-and ad ware protection, and when in doubt, do not download. If you are not a very experienced Internet user than the best way to download music, full length movies, games and various soft wares for free is to get a download site membership. These download sites will provide you with the right soft ware to search for, and download, all sorts of files from the Internet. They also provide a helpdesk in case you run into difficulties and need some assistance.

The psychiatric intern Clark Stevens (Joshua Leonanrd) comes to Cunningham Hall, a mental healthy facility administrated by Dr. Franks (Lance Henriksen), for a training period before his graduation in medical college. He gets close to the resident Sara (Jordan Ladd) and to Ben London, a dangerous patient lodged in cell 44 in the basement of the clinic. Clark becomes intrigued with a boy, who seems to be a ghost, and finds that Dr. Franks does not use real medication in the patients. A further investigation shows hidden dark secrets in the clinic.
